Opening post

Should we be worried about Craig Ervine? His 2025 record was decent but a year is a long time at age 40-41. He did get a half-century in the test but that was also on a wicket where everyone seemed to be scoring.

I am a big fan of Craig and started Ervinemania years ago, but I fear he might be a passenger by the time the world cup comes along - still more than a year away.

Yes, we should be worried!

Burl offers more in ODIs, so might be time to move on from him.

Matthew Campbell could probably replace him in Test matches, given his current form. :)

Craig Ervine is a Zimbabwe cricket legend, but his best days are behind him. I still think he makes the Test side on merit, but he should be making way for someone else in ODIs.

We also don't play a lot of ODI cricket, I think he has played 6 ODIs in the last 2 years.

We played all those Tests last year which should have been Ervine's time to shine but turned out very average. Lots of starts but never went on when we really needed him to. I think we can safely rule him out for the 2027 World Cup but still keeps his Test spot imo.

Burl is a complete passenger and sneaks under the radar with more shocking selections and performances from other guys covering for him. Got 2k t20i runs the same series Bennett did but been playing 10 years longer 😂

Can think of probably two match winning knocks in his entire career and one blistering bowling performance. He should be the case study of white privilege avoiding too much scrutiny 😂😂

He can hit sixes at least, unlike our other "finishers".

Sometimes 😂

He’s played 120 t20i’s compared to Wez’s 80 t20i’s
He’s made 4 t20i 50s compared to Wez’s 7 t20i 50s.

In summary he’s played 50% more t20i’s than wez has, scored 50% less 50s than wez has and gets 0% of the strays wez does 😂😂

Five of wez’s 50s are against full members. Bro literally has more 50s against full members than Burl does against anybody.

I’d make a case for wez’s bowling being better too. Very economical and has a bit of a golden arm.
My opinion is the Board or the Zimbabwe team managements plan was to pay respects to players of the past and its current seniors at the World Cup next year. I think for all the BS guys like Ervine, Taylor, Cremer, Williams, Raza have had to put up with over the last 15+-20+ years, then they deserve a proper farewell. I think Experience is key in world cups more so than younger guys, who show potential at any other level, their time can come post world cup.

He’s low key awesome 😂 not as in your face as Raz or Williams but he’s got regular 50s (or there abouts) in him. Seem to remember he got a few decent 40s in the tests vs SA last year when everyone else was struggling.

Whoa there...easy on the recency bias. Very good knock the other day, but it is Australia's second string attack.

I remember Ervine had briefly taken the "Zim's best batter" mantle for a brief few months somewhere around 2017 or something. And that too was really only about Test cricket. In ODIs, Ervine has been rather ordinary...I suspect he averages less than 30 against the top 10 ODI sides. He's close to or at Hamilton Masakadza territory here.

Confirmation bias. Imagine if I said a certain player from Zim needs to go and it's because I assume he is acting like typical victims and never wanting to change themselves always blaming others, instead of building yourselves up and others through hardwork and determination. Only 5% of people in this world 🌍 are privileged, the elites, the majority of which are mixed race.

In regards to Burl. You cannot compare stats with an opener who can face 60 balls and Burl may get 6. Burl has got a ridiculous amount of not ours. Why does race have to do with anything, white privilege you said. Can you not look past someone's skin colour, in a white Aussie guy following Zimbabwe since late 2000 early days of 2001. It's tiresome and surely you can say something more intelligent. And without getting into a political debate, there's no such thing as white privilege anymore, it's the opposite. In the US, UK, Europe, Aus, most working class citizens live pay check to pay check, they have negative feelings about themselves, they carn't buy property, rent is ridiculous, inflation increases by 9.5% over a 12 month period , pay rise increased by 3.5%. it's not covering the inflation. You can look at the facts, these are widely studied subjects across Yale, Harvard, and Sydney, London, Melbourne. I suppose it greatly depends on where you reside and live in this world.

I know of you PatBee from the previous forum which I loved for my daily Zim cric updates etc. i respect everyone's takes and opinions on anything cricket related, but using the race card, especially with Zimbabwe and how it had, and still has its issues in the system and structurally have got issues within the system. I'm not here to hate anyone, or police this forum, but I'll call B.S out when others are part of the problem, not helping the solution. Peace ✌🏻

This white privilege is a real thing. White players get great PR from certain fan bases based on nothing more than the assumption they must be good at cricket because they’re white.

Like the whole Brad Evans social media campaign 😂 where is that for a black player like Masekesa or Mavuta when people are complaining Wellington isn’t a good enough spinner?! It’s nowhere. Guys will post about it for a couple of days then go quiet. Guys want Wellington dropped for Burl. The reasoning being Wellington doesn’t bowl his full quota and doesn’t take wickets, the solution is swap him for a white lad who bowls even less of his quota and takes even less wickets 💁🏻‍♂️ the crazy thing is wellington’s ODI economy is 4 point something, you won’t find anyone cheaper.
