Opening post

Watching the lady chevrons and matambanadzo said tonight they’re releasing the schedule for the 2027 World Cup, who’s playing at what venue and when.

That means they are probably announcing the Group draws as well.

Its actually a Super 7, which is a great concept IMO...it creates a tussle between the bottom sides across groups and not just competition within a group. Net run rates will most likely come into play unless there is significant rain - which is likely given the length and geographic spread of the tournament.

One of the 4th place teams is going to progress.

Ya, we don't win much at Queens do we? But heard they will be using drop in pitches. Perhaps that could change our fortunes a bit?

Surely, we should be looking to beat the Afg, Pak and the qualifier.

2027 Cricket World Cup Tickets

For anyone planning to attend the World Cup next year, the official ticket ballot is now open.

The important bit: you are not buying tickets yet. Entry into the ballot is free, and it is not first come, first served, so there is no need to launch an assault on the ICC website.

The ballot closes at 23:59 CAT on 21 November 2026.

You can enter for as many matches as you want, with each match treated separately, and request up to four tickets per match. If a match is oversubscribed, successful applicants will be selected through a random ballot and then given a window in which to purchase their tickets.

Ticket prices are expected to range from roughly US$9.62 to US$31.31, depending on the match/category. The ICC has also mentioned family bundles, student and pensioner pricing, community/school rates and early-bird allocations for locals.

I don't mind the Super 7 itself, it's the way the teams get into it that feels weird to me. If one 4th-place team can make it while another can't simply because the groups send a different number of teams through, that's a pretty awkward way to structure a tournament.

A Super 6 or Super 8 would've achieved basically the same thing without having to explain why one group gets a different qualification route.

Pakistan may be the easiest beat out of that trio, TBH. But then you may have to deal with extreme pace of Haris et al on a lively Harare deck. Starc, Cummins, Hazlewood in Harare could also hurt the NRR. Wonder which qualifier goes in which group...is it pre-determined?

Yeah, Pakistan might be the easiest on paper, but I wouldn't be too confident about that in Harare. A lively pitch with Haris running in could make things very uncomfortable, and Australia obviously has enough pace to wreck the NRR if they get on top early. I'm also curious about the qualifier allocation, because if that's already predetermined then the draw could be a lot less random than it looks.

Super. 7 remember
Best 4th placed team qualifies. The world cup was restructured about 3 to 6 months to go, if that, not even. More or less so India can play Pakistan up to 3 times.

It's comes down to the best positioned side. So they may have 3 wins the other 2 wins, they may have 3 wins each but then they check the net run rate which will more than likely choose zwho goes through to the super 7s.

Well according to a source I had up from AI that I've now lost. Zimbabwe is reported to project a total profit of $35 to $50 million dollars, that's USD from the world cup. Now that doesn't even include what Zimbabwe will get throug, hospitality, tourism, tickets, and as you can imagine the list goes on. And then there's the money the country itself should profit from because of the number of positive factors is brings to a country's economy etc. Now I think this is crucial because Zimbabwe crickets next FTP cycle is likely to be down from this one currently we are in, but it's not just Zimbabwe, everyone will be affected, except India. Odis look to be only a focus in the last 12-18 months prior to the next 2031 odi world cup. There maybe the odd Triangular or quadrangular odi series, but the majority will be removed from bilaterals and only really used in the 12-18 months before an ODI world cup. So Zimbabwe to probably be playing a large number of the worst format T20is.
Thomas Purcell
This is where Zimbabwe entering the World Test Championship 🏆 from the 2027-2029 WTC cycle, regardless of Afghanistans and/or Irelands situations, and their beliefs and their views are, we have to join the big boy's. If Zimbabwe cricket is at all left out of the WTC and it's 2027/2029 WTC cycle then I do worry about Zimbabwe Cricket's status as a Full Member of the ICC. Because playing T20i's extensively and then deciding if we can afford to play the odd test match or not, and if we do against only Ireland or Afghanistan, well unfortunately that is not feasible, it's not helping Zimbabwe Cricket growing the game, getting the fundamental basics right and steaming ahead into the future. I think the aftermath of the 2027 ODI World Cup is extremely important for Zimbabwe Cricket to be on top of whatever happens, for good or for bad. I think Zimbabwe Cricket needs to have all its bases covered asap. What does the situation look like if things go pear shaped during the world cup, and what does a successful world cup campaign for Zimbabwe Cricket look like, and how do ZC sustain it going forward. Extremely exciting and nervous times ahead for Zimbabwe cricket as a whole, including its fans and this forum 😁.

I get that, but that's not really my point. NRR is fine as a tiebreaker - I'm talking about why one 4th-placed team gets a route into the Super 7 while another 4th-placed team doesn't because of how the groups are structured. That's the weird part to me.

Because it gives Pakistan a chance to play India at most 3 times, it literally was designed, well changed to give Pakistan the best chance to make it to the super. 7. I wish I was lieing. Jarrod Kimber explained it well. If Pakistan say make it, you have the potential of 3 India vs Pakistan games, which generates obviously the biggest television audience. The way Jarrod explained it is better than the way I articulated it

I have always dreamt of a Zimbabwe Cricket Forums 20 year celebration at the 2027 Cricket World Cup - I have entered the ticket lottery for the Harare games on the off chance I can actually make the trip over to Zimbabwe.

Crazy that ZCF will be turning 20 next year. A celebration during the World Cup would be nice. Has there ever been a ZCF meetup before?
